Dundalk Criminal Lawyer

Dundalk Criminal LawyerDundalk is the largest town in Baltimore County in terms of population.  With over 70 thousand residents, it is one of the largest unincorporated towns in the entire state.  It is for this reason that county police have a large presence in the town, which borders Baltimore City to the west and Sparrows Point and Essex to the south and east respectively.  The city is home to precinct 12 of the BCPD, and is not necessarily a high crime area, but due to its dense population there are more incidents of crime in this precinct than any other precinct in the county.  According to the Baltimore County Police Department’s annual reports, there were almost 10,000 reported incidents of crime in the precinct.  Just like the Maryland State Police crime reporting statistics, the county does not include all types of crime.  In fact only crimes that actually have victims are included in these numbers.  The reported crimes numbers do no include drug crimes such as possession of marijuana or possession of cocaine.  The statistics also do not include traffic crimes.

If you or someone you know has been arrested or is being investigated for any crime including violent crimes and drug crimes, contact the Dundalk criminal lawyers at The Herbst Firm.  Our criminal defense lawyers have offices close by, and can even come to your home or neighborhood to discuss your criminal charge.  We know the area and we know that police often make assumptions and even false arrests.  The firm is dedicated to achieving the best possible outcomes for all are clients, whether it be a jury trial or a plea agreement.

The most common type of reported incident of crime in the precinct is theft by a large margin.  In 2011 there were over 2,500 reported incidents of theft in the Dundalk area.  Many of these theft cases did not result in arrests, as typically around half of reported criminal incidents of theft are closed by police with an arrest.  Baltimore County police can issue criminal citations for minor theft cases such as shoplifting, but chances are that if the police locate a suspect in a theft case he or she will be arrested.  The second most common reported crime is burglary.  Fourth degree burglary is a misdemeanor in Maryland, but all other types of burglary are felonies.  There were over 600 reported incidents of burglary in the area in 2011, which is lower than police precinct two’s reported number but higher than all other police precincts.  Police also reported a large number of aggravated assaults in the precinct.  There were over 500 assaults that either caused an injury or involved a police officer, and typically more than half of these cases end up in an arrest being made.  Motor vehicle theft and robbery were the next most frequent reported crimes with 367 and 205 reported in 2011 respectively.

"I am writing this letter to thank you for doing such a great job in my case. If it were not for what you did I would still be in jail right now. My family and I are very grateful I have a second chance at life now, and if it wouldn't be like this if you were not so good at what you do. Thank you again Benjamin!" T.S.

"Thank you for all the time and effort that you put into defending my case. You were willing to fight for me when nobody else would believe my story, and you did not back down from the prosecutor. Another lawyer would have urged me to plead guilty, but you were willing to fight for me, and in the end justice was served. I appreciate everything you did and wish you all the best." Fred D.
