Germantown Criminal Lawyer
Although it is not an incorporated city, Germantown is one of the five largest towns in Maryland and also has a great deal of historical significance including being the site of the arrest of a co-conspirator in the Abraham Lincoln assassination. The city is located about 25 miles north of Washington D.C. and is accessible via Interstate 270. Only Baltimore and Columbia have more residents living within its borders. The 10.8 square mile city has around 90,000 residents, and is also home to a variety of federal government agencies and departments. Singe family homes and apartment buildings are springing up throughout the city. It is also home to a variety of large employers and thus it is a large commuter city as well. The U.S. Department of Energy as well as the Atomic Energy Commission both have large offices within the city limits. With the large influx of residents and commuters, crime levels have also increased in the city. Germantown does not have city police department because it is not incorporated, and therefore law enforcement is handled by the Montgomery County Police Department. The MCPD made up of 6 districts and District 5 patrols the city.
The MC PD no longer releases quarterly crime statistics for each police district, but countywide stats are still released. Keep in mind that like all crime statistics in Maryland, only reports incidents are used in the calculations. Crimes that do not involve a direct victim are not included in these statistics and as a result this data is not always indicative of how much crime actually occurs in the county. Some of the most common crimes such as drug possession and DUI are not included. In any given year Montgomery County Police record about 60,000 incidents of crime. The overall crime rate in the county has actually decreased, but there has been an increase in assault cases. The most common incidents of reported crime were burglary and larceny. Robbery and aggravated assault had similar reported incidents. Historically the city's district is responsible for about 20% of the total crime in the county, so there are about 12,000 reported incidents of crime in the city, and thousands more cases of drug possession and sale as well as traffic criminal cases and alcohol violations. If you are arrested by the MCPD, your case will be sent to either the District Court Rockville or Silver Spring. All felony cases or jury trial cases in Montgomery County are handled in the Circuit Court on Maryland Avenue in Rockville. The Herbst Firm’s

"I am writing this letter to thank you for doing such a great job in my case. If it were not for what you did I would still be in jail right now. My family and I are very grateful I have a second chance at life now, and if it wouldn't be like this if you were not so good at what you do. Thank you again Benjamin!" T.S.

"Thank you for all the time and effort that you put into defending my case. You were willing to fight for me when nobody else would believe my story, and you did not back down from the prosecutor. Another lawyer would have urged me to plead guilty, but you were willing to fight for me, and in the end justice was served. I appreciate everything you did and wish you all the best." Fred D.
